In light of our Altar themed Pop up Shop, we wanted to share with you some ways to create energetic altars in your home or studio. Creating an altar is a wonderful way to infuse mindful energy into your space. An altar helps remind us of our intentions and connects us to our meditation practice, mindfulness practice and our yogic way of life. The altar can be used as a space where you dedicate time for yourself, slow down and get grounded. It's a space where you can just Be. We like to use our altar space for meditation, yoga, intentions, sometimes to just play our singing bowl, and other times to do Tarot. Use your altar for mindful practices that fuel your being and brings balance and tranquility to your life. Below are some Altar making tips to help you create your sacred space:
Find a space in your home, a table, shelf or other surface area that you can clear and create space for meaningful items. Having a de-cluttered space, soothes and calms the mind and spirit, allowing for peace and serenity to emanate throughout the space.
SACRED ITEMS OF THE COSMOS
Adorn you altar with objects from the cosmic elements: Earth, Water, Fire and Air, as the altar as whole is a representation of the cosmos. Using symbolic or literal representations of each of these elements on your altar creates in effect a microcosm of the the universe. Bringing together these elements aids in creating a place of subtle energy that seeks balance and harmony with the cosmos. These elements can be represented by the following items:
Other elements to include are photos that inspire you, art, mandalas, fresh flowers, statues of deities that have special meaning to you, the buddha, malas, and other treasured talismans and objects. Choose objects that represent you and the energy you want to create in your life. Be selective and mindful in choosing elements for your altar.
USING YOUR ALTAR
Respect the sacred space you have created and use it often in order to build the energy of the altar. A nice way to use your altar is to start by lighting a candle and some incense, then taking a deep breath. Sit for awhile and focus on your breath, slowing down and allowing time for meditation. Use your altar as a place for gratitude and setting intentions. Be specific with your intentions and hold them clearly in your mind as you spend time in your sacred space. The energy of your altar will build the more you use it, so spend time and acknowledge the presence of your altar daily.
Change your altar periodically to bring in new intentions and new energy. Add fresh cut flowers, change up your crystals and gems you are working with, and continue to add pieces that you resonate with as they come into your life. Be sure to check out our curated selection of Altar goodness currently available through our Pop Up Shop. Feel free to share with us what makes your altar come to life through comments on our blog or on instagram @azuilelife. We love hearing from you. Enjoy the light your altar brings to your life.
