How are you feeling? Have you done a Spring Cleanse this season yet? It's late Spring now and on a personal note, we haven't had a chance to complete our own cleanse yet and we thought some of you may be in the same position?! We had a very busy Spring with a big move, new home, new job and with those elements, it's wasn't necessarily the right time for us to cleanse as we want to give our bodies as much support and nurturing as possible. We're feeling ready now and wanted to share some cleansing tips with you to help us all transition into Summer with clarity and vitality.
According to Traditional Chinese Medicine, the element associated with Spring is Wood. Wood creates mental clarity and allows us to focus, plan and make decisions easily. Have any of you been feeling overwhelmed? experiencing poor judgement? inability to plan or make decisions? or are you on the other end of the spectrum with over-planning? headaches? finding it hard to relax? feeling angry? These are all symptoms of an imbalanced wood element and signs that your liver and emotional body may be out of balance. The wood element and the liver work together in creating a harmonious balance during the Spring season. A healthy wood element allows one to wake up energized to take on the day and a sluggish liver will make a very slow morning riser. When the liver is overloaded and congested, it is unable to effectively detoxify the blood, leaving toxins to roam throughout the body. A build up of toxins overtime will create some of the mental and emotional symptoms mentioned above plus physical problems such as poor digestion, breakouts, inflammation, low immunity, unhealthy cravings, and excess weight.
So if you are feeling a little scattered, ungrounded or feeling less than optimal lately then try out the Spring Mind Body Cleanse to prep your body for a healthy Summer season. This cleanse has been our most popular, as Spring is notoriously the best time for cleansing and this program uses the healing power of whole foods, yoga and mindfulness to shift your body into balance. If you haven't completed the 7 Day Spring Mind Body Cleanse before, try out this goodness that will leave you feeling light, refreshed and vital. If you have completed our Spring cleanse or another cleanse this season, then try out some of these Spring cleansing tips below to keep your body, mind and spirit balanced as we shift into summer.
TURMERIC - an amazing liver cleanser and rejuvenator, anti-inflammatory agent, immune booster and digestive aid. Add as much of this spice as you can to your daily routine. I love adding fresh turmeric root to my morning smoothies for a super powered breakfast and I add the ground spice to grain, veggie and legume dishes. You can also increase your intake with a daily supplement to further support the body and mind.
SPROUTS - the ultimate Spring superfood, filled with protein, enzymes and bioavailable vitamins and minerals to support cleansing and optimal nutrition. Sprouts are an easy addition to any meal - top off your grain bowls with these, add them to smoothies for a punch, or roll up some sprouts and veg in nori or collard greens. Try broccoli sprouts, adzuki bean, sunflower, alfalfa, chickpea, mung beans sprouts or make your own sprouts here.
GREEN - the colour associated with Spring is green so we want to load up on all the cleansing green veggies available at the markets, especially dark leafy greens. Try to get a variety of greens in your diet so that kale isn't the only green in rotation. Experiment with these super packed cleansing greens: purslane, sorrel, dandelion greens, swiss chard, collard greens, parsley and cilantro. Add them to your smoothies, soups, salads and grain bowls.
