As we enter Spring, nature gives us opportunities to cleanse the body and find a sense of expansiveness in our lives. We've put together some of our favourite foods and Spring rituals that will keep you feeling clean and clear for the season ahead.



Spring is associated with the liver and so we want to give this important organ some much needed love. Including liver loving foods into your diet such as beets, artichokes, leafy greens, and turmeric will help clean out your hard working liver. We've included a recipe for one of our favourite Spring cleansing treats, the nourishing Beet Smoothie Bowl, which has loads of liver supportive foods and is so satisfying (adapted from My New Roots).

2 cups kale
1 small beet, peeled and chopped
1 cup frozen raspberries
2 dates
small wedge organic lemon with the peel
1 tsp. spirulina or chlorella
1 tsp. vanilla extract
1/2 cup water
topping ideas: raw cacao nibs, raspberries, inca berries, goji berries, bee pollen, chia seeds, hemp seeds

Place everything in a high speed blender and then top off the bowl with your favourite superfoods.


shinrin yoku

Spring is also associated with the element of wood, so it's the perfect time to indulge in the Japanese practice of shinrin-yoku or forest bathing. This meditative practice is a natural way to reduce stress and anxiety, increase energy levels, elevate the mood, and heighten intuition.

Head to the forest and pick a leisurely trail.
Walk slowly.
Open your senses.
Open your heart.
Be mindful.
Breathe it all in as you walk under the canopy of the forest. 



Over the winter months our detox organs often become overloaded from exposure to various toxins, pollutants, and chemicals found in our food, air and water. Cleansing the body inside and out will fortify our bodies and eliminate what no longer serves us. Follow these cleansing practices for the next few weeks. 

Organic fruit and vegetables are one of the easiest ways to remove environmental toxins from our food supply. Eating fresh food and removing congesting foods such as wheat and gluten, sugar, alcohol, dairy and processed foods is important for lowering our toxic load. Focus on eating fresh leafy green vegetables, cruciferous veg (broccoli, cauliflower, cabbage), fermented foods (kimchi, sauerkraut) and fresh alkaline fruit (berries, lemons, apples).

Herbs and superfoods can be used to help eliminate stored up toxins residing in the body. Turmeric, milk thistle, dandelion root and nettle are some of our favourite Spring cleansing herbs. Reishi is another favourite medicinal that we're adding into our Spring routine this year as it supports phase I + II liver detoxification and helps boost the immune system. Grab ground Reishi from your local apothecary or try Moon Juice's spirited blend and add it to your favourite tea or elixir. Another favourite of ours is the Myco Botanicals Liver, which is a comprehensive liver support blend. When adding cleansing herbs that pull out toxins from the body, it's also important to add daily fibre to our routine such as chia seeds or ground flax seeds to help scrape and remove pulled out toxins from the colon.

Dry Skin Brushing is best done at this time of year to exfoliate winter skin, improve circulation, tone and assist in detoxification. Make this part of your daily ritual, spending a few minutes  before showering to brush the skin starting from the feet and working your way up using long or circular strokes towards the heart. After your shower be sure to nourish the skin with an oil or balm to lock in moisture. Our fave is Nucifera, a luxe coconut oil based moisturizer - it's the balm!
